This final year project thesis focuses on Alamouti code. In the first chapter we present an introduction to the fundamentals of telecommunication systems. In the second chapter of thisthesis there is an analysis onspace-time diversity and an analysis of Alamouti’s algorithm for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless telecommunication system. Furthermore, there are some examples of the code’s functionality, focusing on the performance both in a wire line environment and in a wireless one. In the third chapter we present the Maximal Ratio Combining algorithm for MIMO telecommunication systems. The fourth chapter presents the simulation results of Alamouti’s technique and the Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) technique, so they can be compared. For the simulation’s purposes, the wireless channel is considered Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) with Rayleigh fading, and the signal is BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) modulated. The Bit Error Rate (BER) of the two techniques is calculated and their BER performance is compared. Finally, we present our conclusions on the Alamouti algorithm.
